Before Loyalists left Boston and Philadelphia, key events included the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the passage of the Intolerable Acts, which escalated tensions between the British and the American colonists. The First Continental Congress and the initial battles of the Revolutionary War further solidified the divide, making life difficult for Loyalists. Ultimately, the combination of these events contributed to many Loyalists deciding to leave the cities they once called home.
