A playground is on the flat roof of a city school, [tex] hb = 6.20 \text{ m} [/tex] above the street below (see figure). The vertical wall of the building is [tex] h = 7.70 \text{ m} [/tex] high, to form a 1.5-m-high railing around the playground.

A ball has fallen to the street below, and a passerby returns it by launching it at an angle of [tex] \theta = 53.0° [/tex] above the horizontal at a point [tex] d = 24.0 \text{ m} [/tex] from the base of the building wall. The ball takes 2.20 s to reach a point vertically above the wall.

(a) Find the speed at which the ball was launched.

(b) Find the vertical distance by which the ball clears the wall.

(c) Find the horizontal distance from the wall to the point on the roof where the ball lands.

The speed at which the ball was launched is 10.91 m/s. The ball clears the wall by a vertical distance of 24.02 m. The horizontal distance from the wall to the point where the ball lands is 48.28 m. ;

The speed at which the ball was launched is approximately 16.40 m/s. The ball clears the wall by about 3.40 m, and lands 24.04 m from the wall on the roof.
