Continental glaciers are large ice sheets that cover flat areas in polar regions, flowing outward from their thickest points. In contrast, valley glaciers are smaller, long, and narrow glaciers that flow downhill through mountain valleys. Both types of glaciers shape the landscape, but they do so in different environments and forms.
