Combine and simplify the expressions to determine how many are equal:

1. \(4w + 7x - 11y + 3w + 7x + 6y\)

2. \(3w + 8y + 8x + 6x - 13y + 5w\)

3. \(7x - 3y + 12w - 2y - 5w + 7x\)

4. \(4w + 4x - y + 3w - 18x - 4y\)

How many of them are equal?

Answer (2)

The first step to seeing if they are equal is simplifying each expression:

4w + 7x - 11y + 3w + 7x + 6y = 4w + 3w + 7x + 7x - 11y + 6y = 7w + 14x - 5y

2) 3w + 8y + 8x + 6x -13y + 5w = 3w + 5w + 8y - 13y + 8x + 6x = 8w - 5y + 14x

7x - 3y + 12w - 2y - 5w + 7x = 7x + 7x - 3y - 2y + 12w - 5w = 14x - 5y + 7w

4w + 4x - y + 3w - 18x - 4y = 4w + 3w + 4x - 18x - y - 4y = 7w - 12x - 4y

The first and third are equal to each other. Hope this helps! :)

After simplifying the four expressions, only Expressions 1 and 3 are equal to each other. Expressions 2 and 4 are different. Therefore, there are 2 expressions that are equal.
