Scientists never say a theory is proven or not; they only say if the evidence supports or refutes it.

The answer to this question would be: modify or reject.
Making a fully right theory is really hard. When a new evidence shows a result that indicates the theory wrong, it might be rejected if they are fully wrong or modified if it was only partially wrong. It will need multiple of evidence to reject or modify a theory.

In science, theories are well-tested explanations that are always open to support or refutation based on new evidence. Scientists avoid claiming theories are 'proven' as they rely on ongoing testing and advancements in knowledge. This approach allows scientific understanding to evolve over time with emerging evidence.
