We need to add the two sides of the ratio to get 12 and then divide 96 by 12 96/12=8 So the ratio will be 5 8:7 8 = 40:56 Therefore the number of sweets in the small pile is 40

The smaller pile contains 40 sweets. We calculated this by dividing the total number of sweets into parts according to the given ratio of 5:7. After finding the value of each part, we multiplied it by the number of parts for the smaller pile.
