To solve it we can add 17 + 3 17+3=20 It says that we have to divide 740 into 20 parts 740:40=37 Now we have to multiply 37 bye 17 and by 3 to see the result 37 ∗ 17 = 629 - total number of students 3 ∗ 17 = 51 - total number of faculty

∴ From the given **data **we can write 17x + 3x = 740 which is
20x = 740
2x = 74
x = 37 .
Then the no. faculty members are (3×37) = 111 and the no. of students are (17×37) = 629.
