What would happen to a cell if the cell membrane were solid and waterproof?

Osmosis couldn't happen and thus water and nutrients could not move into the cell and the waste products of the cell couldn't move out, killing the cell.

A solid and waterproof cell membrane would prevent the movement of essential nutrients and waste, leading to cell death. The inability to regulate internal conditions and communicate would severely disrupt cellular function. Overall, such a membrane would undermine the basic requirements for cellular life.
