The universal genetic code signifies that almost all life on Earth shares a common ancestor, supporting the theory of a single origin of life known as LUCA. Hypotheses such as the RNA-first model suggest that early forms of life relied on RNA, while the Frozen Accident hypothesis implies that a genetic bottleneck established the current code. Thus, understanding this code provides critical insight into the history and evolution of life on our planet.
