Why did so many Native American peoples adopt Christianity in Latin America during the 1500s?

They did it because they were forced to do it. The Spanish conquistadors would read a document that stated that from now on the country was Christian and ruled by the Spanish King, and they could not oppose. If they did, or if they simply didn't understand Spanish which was the language of the document, they would get killed. After a while they figured out that they would either start behaving like the Spaniards or they would get killed.

In the 1500s, many Native Americans adopted Christianity primarily due to coercive conversion by Spanish colonizers and missionaries. Factors such as the blending of cultures, the desire for protection against diseases, and the authority of the Spanish Church drove this conversion process. While there were influences from indigenous beliefs, the conversion was largely enforced through violence and domination.
