Why is \(\frac{1}{6}\) greater than \(\frac{1}{8}\) but less than \(\frac{1}{3}\)?

1/6 is greater than 1/8 but less than 1/3 because: think of 1 slice taken away from a pizza with 6 slices, now think of 1 slice taken away from a pizza with 8 slices. Do the same with the last pizza. Think how much space was taken away from each pizza.

An easy way to see us cross multiply If you do 1/6 has the higher number 8>6 For next one 1/3 has the greater number 3<6

6 1 is greater than 8 1 because when a whole is divided into fewer parts, each part is larger. It is less than 3 1 because dividing a whole into fewer parts leaves larger pieces. Hence, 6 1 fits neatly between 8 1 and 3 1 .
