Asked by carla

Answer (2)

you can do the sin, cos, or tan of that angle using any of the numbers provided
Sin x = summit/ trailhead
Cos x = horizontal distance / trailhead
tan x = summit/ horizontal distance

To estimate the angle of elevation from the trailhead to the summit, create a right triangle with the height and horizontal distance as legs. Use the tangent function defined by tan ( θ ) = L H to find the angle θ through the equation θ = tan − 1 ( L H ) . Calculate the values for height and horizontal distance, and then apply the arctangent function to determine the angle of elevation.
