When creating a population pyramid (age-sex graph), should the percentage be based on the entire population or just the gender being represented? For example, on the male side of the 0-4 cohort, should the percentage displayed represent the entire population or just the male population?

So you are saying if you should calculate the percentage for each side like male or female or by the age range break down. The answer is u should calculate for the entire male or female population but you can also find the percentage for each break sown based on the total of each side or the total across the board. In a population pyramid, the percentages for an age cohort like the male 0-4 group should represent the entire male population of that age group. It is common to express this as a percentage of the total population. This helps in understanding the demographic structure more clearly.
