What character traits does Odysseus reveal when he tells Polyphemus that his name is Noman?

What might have happened if Odysseus had told Polyphemus who he was?

How would Homer’s audience feel about this response from Odysseus?

Odysseus reveals he clever and crafty and certainly capable of lying. If Odysseus HAD told Polyphemus his true name, that would have put him at a disadvantage and lowered the audience's impression of Odysseus. As for the last question, I would help but I am not 100% sure. Hope this helped a bit!

Odysseus tells Polyphemus his name is 'Noman' to demonstrate his cunning and resourcefulness while avoiding direct confrontation. Revealing his true identity could have led to dire consequences, potentially resulting in his and his men's deaths. Homer's audience would likely admire Odysseus's cleverness, seeing him as a smart hero who uses deception effectively to survive.
