The cup space is 10 inches by 10 inches. Each cup is 3 inches by 3 inches. The top of the space is closed, so you cannot stack the cups.

How many cups can you place in the cup space?

so the are of the cup is 3 3 or 9 the area of the cup space is 10 10 or 100
we see how many times 9 goes into 100 100/9=11.1111 but we cant fit part of a cup so we round down and get can fit 11 cups

You can fit 11 cups, each 3 inches by 3 inches, into a cup space that is 10 inches by 10 inches. This is calculated by dividing the total area of the cup space by the area of one cup and rounding down to the nearest whole number. Since the area of the cup space is 100 in² and each cup has an area of 9 in², you fit 11 cups total.
