What happens at a conservative plate boundary?

Asked by DaddyFudge

At conservative boundaries 2 plates moving in the same direction at different speeds, sometimes get stuck along the fault line, the fault line is the line of weakness along the plates, the pressure build up between the plates as they are stuck causing the plates to release tremors or shocks up through the earths surface, also known as earthquakes.

At conservative plate boundaries, tectonic plates slide past each other horizontally, leading to the buildup of stress and the generation of earthquakes. Unlike convergent or divergent boundaries, these areas usually do not produce volcanic activity. An example is the San Andreas Fault, where the Pacific and North American plates interact, causing significant seismic events.
