Which of the following statements about ice melting is true and why?

A. Energy flows from the ice to its surroundings.
B. Water molecules move from their fixed position.
C. Water molecules lose energy.
D. The temperature of the ice increases as it melts.

Answer (3)

option(D) is true the ice molecules are taking in heat from its surroundings to melt and form water. This increases the temperature of ice as it melts. option(c) can also be true because to form water, the intermolecular force between the molecules gets weak which allows them to move from their fixed point.

The answer for this question **is part B **that is Water molecules move from their fixed position.
This is because when water is freeze it is in a solid condition that means the molecules are held together tightly and are are vibrating in their fixed positions.
As soon as the molecules gain energy they start to move around from their fixed positions and turn into a liquid.
In the process of doing so ice melts and becomes water.

The true statement about ice melting is B: "Water molecules move from their fixed position". This reflects how ice absorbs energy, allowing its molecules to break free from their solid structure during the melting process. Other options incorrectly describe energy loss, temperature change, or energy flow.
