Both plant cells and animal cells share characteristics such as nucleus, cytoplasm and a cell membrane. The nucleus controls what goes in and out of the cell, the cytoplasm is where cell activity and chemical reactions occur and the cell membrane holds the cell together.

The cells of a maple tree and a beetle both have plasma membranes, organelles like mitochondria, and contain DNA. However, plant cells have a rigid cell wall and chloroplasts, while beetle cells have an exoskeleton made of chitin. These similarities and differences highlight the diversity in cellular structures among living organisms.
