The Seleucids were unable to maintain control over their vast territories for long, facing revolts and losing regions bit by bit until their remaining territories were eventually absorbed into the Roman Empire under Pompey the Great in 63 BCE. Today, these areas are within the boundaries of modern sovereign nations, each of which has a unique identity but part of their land once fell under the vast Seleucid realm.
