I am now learning y = mx + b word problems. Most of my answers are straightforward, but the problem is I don't know what's right or wrong. Here's what I'm dealing with:

An attorney named Teags charges a fixed fee of $250 for an initial meeting and $150 per hour for all hours worked after that. Write an equation in slope-intercept form. Find the charge for 26 hours of work.

The answer I got was 26 = x. I really don't think that sounds right. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer (3)

y = mx+b y = 150x+ 250 for 26 hours, y = 150*26+250 = 4150

The charge is $4150.
To solve the problem of determining the total charge for services provided by Teags, let's write an equation in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b). In this case, the fixed fee is $250, and the hourly rate is $150. Therefore, the equation is:
y = 150x + 250
Here, y represents the total charge, m is the hourly rate ($150), x is the number of hours worked, and b is the fixed fee ($250).
To find the charge for 26 hours of work, substitute 26 for x in the equation:
y = 150(26) + 250
Calculate the value:
y = 3900 + 250
y = 4150
Thus, the total charge for 26 hours of work is $4150.

The equation representing Teags' charges in slope-intercept form is y = 150 x + 250 . For 26 hours of work, the total charge is $4150. Make sure to substitute the number of hours into the equation to find the total cost.
