Ian gets $9 for each hour he works and $10 for each day he works. To find out how much he makes in a day, he made the equation [tex]y = 9x + 10x[/tex], where [tex]x[/tex] is the number of hours he works. Explain why Ian's equation will not tell him how much he makes in a day.

Ian's equation does not correctly represent his total earnings because it mistakenly combines both hourly and daily earnings by multiplying both by the same variable. The correct equation should represent his daily income separately and add it to his hourly earnings. Hence, the correct equation would be y = 9 x + 10 .
