A 1.0 kg book is lifted 0.5 m above the table, and the table is 1.0 m above the floor. What would be the potential energy (P.E.) of the book if the reference level is the floor?

Answer (2)

The height of the book from the ground = 1.0 m + 0.5 m = 1.5 m
The mass of the book = 1 kg
We know that =
P . E . = m ∗ g ∗ h
Taking 'g' as 9.8 m/s² and putting the values in the formula we get -
P . E . = 1 ∗ 9.8 ∗ 1.5
P . E . = 14.7 J o u l es

The potential energy (P.E.) of a 1.0 kg book lifted 0.5 m above a table that is 1.0 m above the floor is calculated using the formula P . E . = m ⋅ g ⋅ h . When substituting the values, the potential energy comes out to be 14.7 J o u l es .
