Why is an ammeter connected in series in an electric circuit?

Asked by Walk322

Answer (2)

In order to measure the size of the electrical current flowing in the circuit, the current must pass through the meter.

An ammeter is connected in series in a circuit to measure the full current flowing through that part of the circuit. It has low resistance, ensuring that it does not affect the measurement. Connecting it in series ensures that the same current flows through the ammeter as through the device being measured.
