Alfred Wegener
Alfred Wegener was the first person to propose the idea of moving continents as a scientific hypothesis. It was during 1912 of January 6 that he suggested to the German Geological Society of such educated guess. In which, Alfred Wegener believed that the earth’s now divided and dispersed continents were once a single supercontinent namely, the “Pangea” as he labelled it. Even though Wegener’s concept was more built and autonomous, he also strengthened his theory by gathering numerous number of authors with the same concept as he had.

Alfred Wegener was the first to propose the idea of moving continents through his Continental Drift Theory in 1912. He suggested that all continents were once part of a supercontinent called Pangaea, supported by various evidence like continent shapes, fossils, and geological similarities. While his ideas initially faced skepticism, they eventually contributed to the development of the plate tectonics theory.
