When a wave enters a new medium, it may speed up or slow down. What other properties of the wave might change when it enters a new medium?

Answer (2)

velocity of a wave = wavelength * frequency
The velocity may change and the wavelength may change--- the frequency stays constant!

When a wave enters a new medium, its speed, wavelength, direction, and amplitude may change. The speed changes based on the medium's properties, the wavelength changes inversely with speed assuming constant frequency, and the direction may bend due to refraction. Additionally, the amplitude can change due to energy loss in the new medium.
